    Hello 各位
    我想請問大家些英文問題,第一就是英文聽力,向我做聽力測驗時,常常long conversation都記不住重點 or 因為其中一個字聽無就會去想,然後忘了後面在講什,so考試就答不出來

    第二,我粉想多個外國人聊天合他們向好朋友般,但我的英語字彙&對話能力時在有限,所以常常冷場,
    請問該怎咪半呢??

    謝謝大家

I used to be like that, yet I listened to a lot of tapes repeatedly everyday. Also, I read many articles and consulted my electronic dictionary frequently.

I think build up the vocabulary is the key. As long as you have enough input-- listening and reading, you will feel comfortable to output--speaking and writing.

The processs is not easy, yet if you can stick to it everyday, one day you will taste the sweet fruits of the success.

It is sad to read that those young children started learning English so well in their early ages, but did not continually improve their English to a much better level in high school. I wonder what kind of teachers and English materials they are using in those high schools. Instead of helping those young starters to improve their language skill to a much higher level, the education system might delay their development. It is not fair to blame everything to those kindergarten. What is wrong with having Amercian(or Canadian) teachers at those kindergartens English program? They will absolutely help out with the pronunciation.......at least!

    回覆:
Yes, when kids have already acquired English speaking competence in kindergartens, their pronunciation and intonation are usually better than those who don have chance to learn at the early age.

Yet, how come these 2 goups academic performance are closer when they are in high schools?

I think the reason is that high school teachers focus on the grammar and repetitive drill on answering the questions in exams. Therefore, in general, even kids who don learn English in kindergartens are able to have good score in their tests, if they study hard.

Conversely, the ones who have already learned their English at kindergartens or continuously learn it in elementary schools will encounter something in junior high schools-- the lessons are too easy for them. They have alreay learned those articles before,so they can not make great progress at that stage for they are not assigned to read more advanced articles.

does that mean "has a third person" is more suitable for marriage.. while playboy&gal is like dont take love as a serious thing.. while. two timer is like for real couple which is serious in love but bcos of some private reason so he/she become two-timer?
hm.. but i think that this three words can really mix ppl up cos they
e really confusing me.. hm.. lets see in a relationship, if a guy is not serious in love hes a playboy while if hes in love wit two gal within the same time hes two-timer and it can also be he has a third person as well.. hm.. i guess its depend on the sentences you use, right?
    eg:
    Hes a playboy.
Hes a two timing between june and susan.
He has a third person within his marriage.
is this ok? i dunno i jus write it out.. dunno whether its correct or not?
    hm..=(
    hehe

You dont need an "a" in "Hes two-timimg between June and Susan.", though. ^_^

recently i watched tv that jolin say that two timer can be also transmit as has a third person. is this correct?some say no some prefer playboy or playgal well some say that two timer is more formal and traditional? so how? im confusing!!
    thanks for solving my confusing...

    回覆:
"has a third person" is more like "有第三者"直譯.
playboy or playgal is more like 不專情的人 這邊玩玩 那邊玩玩
    two-time(r) 是同時和兩個人交往(的人)

Splitting the tab is even worse. 呵呵
算人頭平分 一次二次還可以 要是每次如此 那對胃口小的人不是很不公平 美國人也很喜歡用這一套 尤其吃的多的人 呵呵 以前我看過一個人問Dear Abby之類的有關這方面的問題 看來她還很受困擾ㄋ 她不想吃太多 可是又不想多付太多別人的份 其實吃多少就付多少是最簡單的方式 我們上次網聚也是一組一個tabㄋ 省很多算錢的麻煩 ^^

    Sara,

Wear one"s heart on one"s sleeve –真情流露

Meaning: Show emotions or feelings openly. 公開表露自己的感情

If you wear your heart on your sleeve, you openly express your feelings or emotions to others. 假如你真情流露,你便會對他人公開表露自己的感情。

    Example:
A: How did the interview go? Did he tell you what problems he has? 面試進行得如何?他有告訴你他的問題出在哪裡嗎?
B: No, it was very difficult to make him open his heart and tell me his true feelings. 沒有,很難讓他打開他的內心,並告訴我他的真正感覺。
Hes not a kind of guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. 他不是一位真情流露的人。

Be careful when you talk to her. Never wear your heart on your sleeve. 當你與她說話時要小心。千萬不要真情流露。

    以上內容與圖取自:humanities.byu.edu/.../ wear_heart_on_sleeve.jpg
    ==============================================================

People who wear their heart on their sleeve express their emotions freely and openly, for all to see.
    人們真情流露時,坦率、公開地在眾人間表露自己的感情。
Example: "She is kind of player who never hides how shes feeling.

    她是一位從不隱藏自己感覺的遊戲的人。
One look at her and you know if shes winning or losing." Reply: "She wears her heart on her sleeve."

    別人看她便知道她贏或輸了。回應:她真情流露。
You can see how these people feel as easily as if they were "wearing" their "heart" on the "sleeve" of their shirt.
    你可以很容易了解這些人的感覺--假如他們”真情” “流露”。

Example: "Some people love him and some people hate him, but my brother always lets you know how he feels. He wears his heart on his sleeve."
    一些人喜歡他,一些人討厭他,但我哥哥(弟弟)總是讓人知道他的感覺。他真情流露。

People who wear their heart on their sleeve do not hold back their emotions, for good or for bad. It is clear how they feel in each moment.
    人們若是真情流露,不會抑制他們的情感--不管好或壞的方面。
    每一分鐘都很清楚知道他們在想什麼。
Example: "Shes a shy person. Shes never been one to wear her heart on her sleeve."
    她是一位怕羞的人。她從來不流露真情。

    有種語言治療臨床的病症叫做CAPD(Century Auditory Process Disorder),基本上這種人在很吵雜的環境中無法集中注意力。

    wannabe(want to be):冒牌貨、喜歡假裝自己跟某些人是一樣的。
    fag,flammer,pole smoker:(屎提夫教的!)gay

    Sara,
American Idol是一個歌唱節目 全美大概有十萬人參加(not sure about the number) 他們會把出賽剪輯撥出 很多人唱得很難聽都不自覺 很搞笑
    最後會選到剩下12個人 然後由全美打電話投妳要支持的人 到最後選最後一個 就是American Idol.
    這個節目源自英國 現在全世界有好多國家都有這個節目 他們還有一次把所有國家的Idol聚在一起比賽 選World Idol.
    也許我應該post這一篇 呵呵

    回覆:
Wow,sounds interesting.^^ You should post it.

Everyone can vote for the ones they like. Then, the final winner must be popular after the voting result, right?

Its a pity that in Taiwan we don see this kinds of hilarious singing programs. We can only see CNN, HBO, Discovery, and several sitcoms. Thanks god that I can watch sitcoms here. I like comedies so much, rather than those sad movies.

    Re:其實在美國待久了你會發現他們都習慣說好聽的話
Although Im in Taiwan, I feel the foreigners here I met are like what you said. They like to speak up positive words, which is very different from most trditional Taiwanese.

That is one of the reason I like to learn English, because I feel the culture behind is very optimistic and laid-back.

Yet,how come they can pay compliments on any trivial things weve regarded all the time? I think the reason is that the environmet-- when they are little, theyve heard so many positive words from their parents or teachers, so when they grow up, they do the same to others.

    回覆:
    Sara 這真的是文化的不同﹐每一次問他們食物好吃嗎﹖他們一定回答好吃﹐但問他們要不要再 吃﹐他們就搖頭說不要了。所以﹐基本上他們的客氣和我們的直言真的

As for the "got caught" and "got caught up" question, I learnt from Ruby and 星媽.

What they explained to me is that it depends on the "contextual meaning".

In that article, it means the guy "was obsessed in" what he was planning.

Yet, Ruby explained that people usually say one "got caught up" instead of one "got caught" only, in that case.
