Hello,
I live in Los Angeles where there are alot of Asians, many official government pamphlets and documents are available in several languages, such as spanish, japanese, chinese, etc. Howver recently I noticed that the Tradional Chinese versions are being replaced with Simplified Chinese versions. To the white americans it doesnt really make a difference because they just use whatever they think is the official chinese language. But to us, "simplified chinese" is a bastadrized form that was enforced by the uneducated communists that were in power at that time. I hope the beautiful traditional chinese written language passed down through the generations will not be forgotten because of politics.

In fact, squatting on the toilet seats is risky.
One of my friends was the victim when she went travelling in a scenic spot. The toilet was collapsing out of blue when she just squatted on.
Then, she was laughed by the ones who was travelling with her in the trip.
When she told me, I could not help laughing aloud on the spot.Ive never known that toilets will collapse.
Later, I heard of other case happened in a cram school. When a student went to the bathroom, the toilet collapsed as well. So, he got laughed by the whole cram school.
Then, the boss asked him to pay half price for the toilet.

Dear
Id like to ask you several grammatical questions from textbooks.
1. She sat thoughtful for a few minutes.
Sat is a verb, yet how come the word behind it is not an "adverb"?
2.American parents usually think that their child should not have more pocket money than the children with whom he regularly connects, even if they are wealthier.
My question is that if one didn put "with" before "whom", but rather left it in the end after "connects", would that sentence be mistaken?
Does one must put "with" before "whom"?
Sara
Hello Sara,
I double-checked with my husband... ^_^
1. ...because it is wrong (呵呵) - should be thoughtfully. ^^
She sat thoughtfully for a few minutes.
2. dont need "whom" there, put "with" after connects.
American parents usually think that their child should not have more pocket money than the children he regularly connects with, even if they are wealthier.
3. no. you can put "with" after connects.
American parents usually think that their child should not have more pocket money than the children whom he regularly connects with, even if they are wealthier.

Actually my husband didnt really want to proofread that essay - too chinglish. He cannot change one word without changing the whole sentence in some parts. For instance, "Also the date will be on July 10th, from 1pm to 5pm." ---dont need on there, or change date to party. Maybe it could be changed to "The party will be on the 10th of July, from 1pm to 5pm."
Since I have the honor (to hold)(change to of holding) our first class reunion, our team, including (me)(change to myself) and (a) few other classmates, have finally decided how this party will go.Firstly, considering that we girls are definitely going to get very wild and noisy, (therefore-dont need therefore) we choose to hold the party at the Cashbox KTV, next to our school rather than (at) a high-class restaurant. As to how the party will go, we have decided (on) several (games )(change to activities), including singing, of course, gift-exchanging, and most importantly, the girl chat. Also the date will be July 10th, from 1pm to 5pm. The reason why we chose this date is that we think you girls might want to have some personal time with your family and friends, therefore we set the date (on) (change to in) mid-July. Thats how our first reunion will go. Remember, its on July 10th, start (change to starting) from 1pm, and don be late. Also dont forget to bring (your little)( change to a small) present.
Still, this is not nearly a perfect version yet. He only made some minor changes, so he wouldnt change the original structure. Here you go:
Since I have the honor of holding our first class reunion, our team, including myself and a few other classmates, have finally decided how this party will go.Firstly, considering that we girls are definitely going to get very wild and noisy, we choose to hold the party at the Cashbox KTV, next to our school rather than at a high-class restaurant. Sara,
The 英文作文唯一滿分essay actually is not so perfect - there are some small grammar errors. What do you think if I have my husband proofread that essay? For a high school student in Taiwan, she definitely did a pretty good job (not quite sure the grader did a good job, though;). 呵呵 well...dont know how to put it...just hope I am not offending anybody.
Sure, thatll be lovely if your hubby would like to proofread.
In fact, the content of English books in Taiwan sometimes include errors.
I hadn noticed that until one day I asked one of my foreign instructors questions from a book, and he pointed out some mistakes from that.
Later, I showed a foreign friend one of my textbooks, and he frankly pointed out some bad English.
One day, I went to a booksotre and browsed a new book, but I found out an obvious error, so that I put away that book.

I guess we have a different definition of "successful" than Americans. From what I know, "wedded to a perfect spouse" is not one of the elements in the "Successful" package in Taiwan. Marriage is considered as more of an obstacle than a booster

Sara,
Baked with cheese? ^^
Lynda,
Thanks! Keep coming! ^_^
http://www.books.com.tw/exep/prod/booksfile.php?item=0010284906
2.
焗烤料理 : a dish with a thick layer of cheese on the noodles/rice/spaghetti
In USAs restaurants, there "might" be a specific word for that.
I really love the potato baked with heavy cheese. Yummy!!! ^_^

Why can we speak Chinese fluently? We’ve been speaking it for so many years. When we were in primary and high schools, teachers have asked us to read aloud and recite many Chinese articles, no matter on poems, ancient Chinese, and modern articles.
Although now we can’t recite them on the spot, they have influenced our comprehensive abilities on reading Chinese articles, and speaking Chinese.
On the other hand, when we compare English to Chinese, we find out how few we’ve been reading aloud in English, and did we recite any English articles?
A famous English magazine chief has said that one at least has to recite 100 English articles, so that his/her English will absolutely make a great progress.
I feel reciting is a bit hard for adults, so I’ve come up an eclectic idea that one should read an English article for at least 20 times on a daily basis, to train his/her speaking skills.
Yes, I agree with you that when one keeps speaking English, one feels that it’s a bit awkward to speak Chinese, because the ways of speaking these 2 languages are distinct.
BTW, Kay is a very sweet person. May your life be happy!

Yes, this learning English phenomenon has become a craze.
Not only English teachers in public school need to pass GEPT on high-intermediate, but other teachers, the other majors, have to pass GEPT on intermediate.
Besides, the government has announced that the exams of civil servant(公務員)will add an English subject as well. One of my friends initially decided to take a civil servant exam, but after she knew this, she chose to give up.
In fact, Taiwan is an EFL(English as a Foreign Language)environment, not as that of the other countries(ESL), such as Singapore, Philippine, India, and etc.
It is too rare to hear people speaking English in Taiwan, except in the classrooms. Therefore, the new standard government set sounds too high to achieve.
BTW, most people have a myth that English majors must have a good command of English. In fact, many English majors can’t pass GEPT on high-intermediate, yet GEPT institute said English graduates should pass GEPT on advanced level.

Time is money.
Hurry up, or youll be late.
Do you think that money is everything?
whose birthday do you think it is?
do you think 是主要子句
whose birthday it is 是附屬子句
子句跟句子一樣要有主詞和動詞所以上面的do you think 並不會影響whose birthday it is 的be動詞的狀態
you might ask me to help you if you like, but i think you had better do it yourself.
if youlike 和 you had better do it yourself 就是附屬子句再由but對等連接起來
good to see you and talk to you right her!!

"Whose birthday do you think it is?"
What do you think the presents are?"
為什麼do and is 可以用在同一句裡?
"Whose birthday do you think it is?"
"What do you think the presents are?"
Whose birthday do you think it is? Whose birthday do you think 和 it is 因為是兩個句子合在一起 所以do和 is可以放在一起
What do you think the presents are? 是同樣的道理 What do you think 和 the presents are兩個句子合在一起 這種句子應該叫"複合句"吧?
it is 和the presents are叫做"子句" 附在母句裡 我想起來了 好像叫做"附合句"

Dear Angie,
I just read the message you left quite some time ago. I am sorry that I replied so late.
My dad and some family are coming here in June for a visit. So we are not able to make it to AZ this summer.
If I get a chance to visit, would you still be interested in showing us around or at least meeting us for lunch or something? It would be nice.
Again, I apologize for the delay of response. It was very nice of you to have thought about us visiting.
I hope everything is well with you.
-S.

Hello Sonia,
Glad to hear that some of your family members are coming to see you. You must be very excited waiting to see them here in the States.
Sure, I will show you around if time allows, we will at least meet for lunch though. ^^
Cyra and I are going to Taiwan on the 6th of June. We will be gone for more than a month. I am very excited about the trip - because we are going to Japan too. Yay!
Talk to you sometime,
Bye now,
Angie

other , the other, another
當時我是用:the other
other則用在every other week; every other day, every other house 意思是"每兩週/天/間房子"
I go clean houses every other week. 或則
I go clean houses once every two weeks.
Well, 我看你就用show off就好了 不要用sport 那句真的沒聽過 呵
