Believe it or not, today was the first day for me to see a dental hygienist in America. Honestly, I really don't like to visit the dentist, but I know I have to. If I don't do so, I might have no teeth when I am in my middle age. Also, a lot of infections start in your mouth. We should always be careful about this. 
My appointment was at 4:00 pm. I got there 20 minutes early to prepare myself. (haha...) My hygienist is Eric. He seemed very nice and friendly. He looked at the digital X-ray I took two weeks ago and told me what he was going to do with my teeth. I told him that my gum always bleeds when I have my teeth cleaned because it is very sensitive. He applied a kind of paste or gel on my gum -- cherry flavor. He told me that I would feel a little bit tingerlish and the numbness it brought would make me feel less pain.

以前住在台北, 交通非常方便; 不管是公車.. 計程車.. 或捷運, 想到哪就到哪, 非常方便... 美國不一樣, 沒車就像沒腳一樣; 如果住在大都市還好 -- 像DC, NY downtown, Chicago downtown 等都有Metro, land train, elevated train, or subway, etc.
我是2001年的夏天到伊利諾州 (Illinois) 開始我研究生的生涯 , 去前壓根沒想過開不開車的問題, 想說住在學校旁的宿舍(dorm)好啦! 走路上學只要10分鐘, 應該很方便; 但是因為某些因素 .... 我在dorm只住了三個多月 .... 便搬去和一個美國同學, Joy, 分租一個 two-bedroom 的公寓 
學期快結束了.... 學校早在五月初就發函詢問老師續任意願... 我起初十分掙扎 
因為高中生不好教... 叛逆期不說 .... 我的學生中, 許多都有家庭問題 ; 父母離異, 被繼父/ 母欺負, 家境清寒 .... 點....點....點 ; 想想看那些在正常家庭裡長大的孩子, 都有可能變壞 , 更何況這些在淤泥中長大的孩子 
現在回想起來, 上學期的課真的很不好教; 一堆學生兩手空空的來上課 
沒有鉛筆, 遑論筆記本, 如果讓他們把課本帶回家 , 那本書就從此匿跡江湖 .... 非得要本女俠三催四請 .... 外加索命帳單 
他們才會把書歸還 .... 而且每天都有學生作怪 .... 上課中頂嘴是家常便飯 你只要一轉頭寫黑板.... 紙球紙飛機就空降在你身上 
常常被他們氣到面紅耳赤 
下學期是有稍微好轉 ... 被退學的(expelled), 懷孕的 (pregnant), 輟學的 (dropout) 就不來了.....但是問題學生仍有 .... 狀況時好時壞 .....
我們ESL部門很孤立 .... 因為大部分ESL學生都是來自於中南美洲 ....不乏非法移民.... 有些美國人對這些學生有偏見 .....講難聽一點就是歧視他們 所以每次我如果告訴別人我敎的科目是ESL, 就會看見他們臉上閃過一絲憐憫的眼神 ...
Yesterday was my high school’s graduation.
It was also the first time for me to go to an American high school’s graduation.
- The cool thing is that all teachers got to wear their gown and hood of the last school they graduated from. 
- The not-so-cool thing is that this event was held on Monday night and all teachers had to attend after a regular school day.
最近學期末到了 該敎的也教完了
學生和老師就等著星期二到星期五的期末考 ....
我平常帶學生挺嚴的 從來都沒有讓學生輕鬆過
既然是學期末 .... 我想也該讓他們放鬆一下 
我也有些機會和他們聊點別的 
我們討論每人負責帶不一樣的食物 .... 有主菜.. 飲料.. 甜點.. 等等
原本我以為有些學生會忘記帶東西來 就像他們平常 "忘記" 我交代他們的功課
出乎意料之外 
他們每個人都記得帶負責的食物 
而且還多帶哩 
害我吃的像豬一樣 
哈哈!

Today it’s Friday! (Thank God it’s Friday = TGI Friday!) 
My husband has a 2005 Toyota Camry and I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla. He needed to bring his car to have an oil change, so we drove our cars to the car dealer, left his car and the spare keys there, and then headed to a nearby mall to have our dinner.
Immediately after we left for the mall, it started to drizzle. The weather was gloomy, mostly because of a pretty bad thunder storm a couple of hours earlier. Our conversation is below.

沒有一個老師倖免.... 平均每個老師犧牲掉十堂的備課時段 ....
監考就算了.... 學校還規定老師監考時不能做其他的事! 兩個老師 (一個 examiner, 一個 proctor) 只能盯著學生看, 在教室走來走去繞圈圈, 學生上廁所, the proctor 也得跟著去... 怕學生高科技作弊 ...All teachers將近900分的生命就這樣被學校給浪費掉了
